’Yoga began with the first person wanting to be healthy and happy all the time.’ –Sri Swami Satchidananda.
Somatic yoga is a gentle therapeutic approach to improve health, well-being, quality of life, and personal performance.
In somatic yoga we are using specifically chosen yoga poses in connection with the breath, in a gentle and fluid way of motion. These movements help us to be aware of our body and the way it responds to particular postures. This is a learning process for all of us, to pay attention at the signs emerging from our deeper layer.
Incorporating slow, mindful movement along with synergizing kinesiology and yoga to re-pattern the body and mind.
Yoga in the west is known mainly by the physical aspect of it – poses, asanas, movements, completing the class with short relaxation. Breathing techniques and meditation are only occasional addition if any as part of the yoga class.
Here in a somatic yoga class we are bringing our attention inward, not to worry about how the pose looks like from an external point of you, rather how it feels for you deep inside. This technique gently guides you to arrive, reconnect with yourself and start listening inward. Listening what your body says to you and learning to understand your own responding patterns and signs.
During this learning process your body-awareness is improving. You will learn when to stop and when to move forward with a deeper pose, whether advancing to a challenging exercise in order to release any tightness, let go any expectation and allow the shift.
In a safe environment facilitating the organic movements driven by sensation, reveal a phenomenal connection to your core strength. This tool empowers you to meet the unexpected, adapt and adjust with enhanced resilience. Learning how to move from the inside out will intensify your sensibility, increase your flexibility and boost your strength.
Incorporating mindfulness and body awareness guides you through the healing power of muscle to brain awareness and re-education. It improves your muscle function and enhances sensory awareness. This experience brings joy into your life, along with greater health. You will be able to find happiness in little things without depending on the external validation of someone else.
The gentle guidance helps you to explore movements overcoming bodily pain, releasing stress, emotional burden, fear or anxiety. This process calms your nervous system and let it be rewired by mental clarity and improved vitality.
Yoga as a therapeutic method can be found in the Books of Ayurveda, the ancient Vedic philosophy, named ‘Yoga Chikitsa’ means ‘yoga therapy’, and is said to relate to all practices of yoga that help us cultivate wholeness in our lives. Wherever one is on the continuum, from deep trauma and suffering, to mild stress, to a sense of wholeness and healthy connection in life, we can engage with yoga therapy to heal, accept the intrinsic beauty and inviolable worth of ourselves, and share in a more fulfilled life.
As of the scientific research, reviews, books and articles in relation with the effect of yoga in healing, you may find several studies from prominent universities and scientist, e.g. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk - you may find and check it out on several platforms.
Practicing Somatic yoga regularly will enhance your lifeforce and teaches you how to become your own healer. You will learn practical and effective skills that you can immediately incorporate into your private practice and initiate your inner healing.
This embodiment practice will awaken each and every body part by gentle muscle movements, guide you focusing attention to your inner self, enhance resilience, upskill your perception to notice, accept, let go, trust the unknown and SURRENDER.
We all need sometimes a safe guidance from someone who does not judge, not diagnose, not put a label on it. Just to hold space, offer presence, curiosity, compassion and a willingness to go with you to those tight and dark places of sadness, grief or anger.
When you feel, you would need some guidance, please contact me to arrange a private session.
I’m available to conduct a session in person at Szentendre, Hungary or we could schedule an online class.
